Late Shri. Annasaheb Chirmule

Hon. Shri. Dattopant Thengadi
(Founder of BMS)

IDBI Officers' Organisation (IDBIOO) erstwhile known as United Western Bank Officers' Organisation (UWBOO) was founded by the following members

In those days's management never wanted to allow the unions to function. Due to injustice on officers, the above officers came together and formed the officer's organization. They faced immediate reaction of the management and some officers like M V Gadgil, Shri S Y Patwardhan had been transferred to remote branches like Tembhurni and Arvi.

In spite of injustice, these officers remained very tough and continued their organizational work.

The organization officially registered on 7th October 1983 under Trade Unions Act 1926 and is Affiliated to Bharatiya Mazdoor sangh (BMS), through National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO). (Registration Number BY-II- 7963).

After merger of UWB in IDBI in the year 2006, the name of the organization has been changed to IDBI OFFICERS' ORGANIZATION. (IDBIOO)

It is an organization of the officers, for the officer and by the officers.

Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, At a Glance

The circumstances in which BHARATIYA MAZDOOR SANGH (BMS) came into existence in the trade union field of India have shaped its significant role in the trade union.

BMS was founded on 23rd of July 1955 - the day being the birth anniversary of Lok Manya Balasaheb Gangadhar Tilak - veteran of Freedom Movement. Two important aspects stand out in connection with this:

a) Formation of BMS was not the result of split in the existing trade union organizations, unlike in the case of almost all other trade unions. Hence it had the formidable responsibility of building its organizational structure from the grass root level. It started from zero having no trade union, no membership, no activist (karyakarta), no office and no fund.

b) On the very first day it was visualized as a trade union whose base-sheet anchors - would be Nationalism, would work as a genuine trade union, keeping itself scrupulously away from party politics. This was also unlike other trade unions which were linked to one or the other political party, overtly or otherwise.

Now BMS is number 1 organization in India having largest membership.
